2016 Abu Dhabi F1 Grand Prix

For the first time, Formula 1 has a 21st race of the season, and Abu Dhabi’s Grand Prix has the honor of being that record breaking race. For the last few years, Abu Dhabi has been the final race on the calendar, and has been where the driver’s championship has been decided, and 2016 is no different.

2016 Brazil F1 Grand Prix

The penultimate race of the 2016 Formula 1 season is Brazil this year. Several years ago, Brazil was the race where Lewis Hamilton won his first world championship by making a pass on the last real corner of the last lap of the final race of the season. That year, he beat Filipe Massa by 1 point, and this year he trails by 19 points with 2 races left.

Mexico City Formula 1 Grand Prix

This week the Formula 1 circus moves immediately to Mexico City for the second race in back-to-back weeks. With only the second race in the new Mexico City circuit, the photo I chose for this post is a throwback to much earlier races. Mexico City has some decent history with Formula 1.

US Formula 1 Grand Prix at Austin

With only 4 rounds of the 2016 Formula 1 World Championship left to race, the circus moves back to North America for the USA Grand Prix in Austin, Texas. The weather last year was terrible the week before the racing, and caused all kinds of problems with the schedule. Hopefully, this year’s race will be a little bit luckier.

Japanese Formula 1 Grand Prix at Suzuka

The next race in the Formula 1 Grand Prix calendar is the one you built with your Scalectrix set as a kid - the only figure 8 circuit on in F1. This is the circuit where many, many championships have been determined - although only the constructors title will likely be decided this weekend since that chance was missed in Malaysia.

Peninsula Signature Events runs The Quail Motorsports Gathering

As we stood outside the Peninsula Beverly Hills thinking about lunch, we decided to walk over to the Peninsula Bangkok (passing the Peninsula Paris) for some Thai food, and finished off our meal with another glass of bubbly from the location next to the Peninsula New York.

Singapore Formula 1 Grand Prix

Next up in the 2016 Formula 1 calendar is the iconic Singapore race weekend. Since it’s inaugural race in 2008, Formula 1’s first night time race has become a must-watch event. It’s never a dull moment on this tricky street course, and every running of the race has involved at least one appearance of the safety car.

2016 Italian F1 Grand Prix with Fine Hotels and Resorts

Italian Formula 1 Grand Prix at Monza

Another exciting weekend at Spa in Belgium. With hot weather, and the super-soft tires not lasting more than a lap at full speed, most teams were on the back foot from the start. With Lewis Hamilton deciding to take 3 new engines to serve all the penalties in a single race, it’s now likely he has enough engine capacity to race the rest of the season. Starting at the back of the grid was the price to pay for using this strategy.

Belgium Formula 1 Grand Prix at Spa-Francorchamps

With another great weekend for Lewis Hamilton before the summer break, the momentum for the Formula 1 Championship is now all his. Once again, Nico had a difficult race, and once again he was penalized for forcing another driver off the track - and then his team messed up the timing of that penalty to add insult to injury.

Fine Hotels and Resorts Bookings & Offers for 2017

Le Royal Monceau Raffles Paris has 3rd night free until March 2017

One of the most annoying parts of the Fine Hotels and Resorts program in the past is that hotels are often not available for booking past the end of the current year. In 2015, the new offers for 2016 started appearing in early September, but it was hard to actually book any of them using the online booking site, as the date picker didn’t let you select a date beyond the end of December.

German Formula 1 Grand Prix

With a wet qualifying session at the last race in Hungary, the mayhem of Q1 lasted for almost an hour, with many red flags as cars were scraped out of the barriers. This led to a long succession of fastest laps being set as the circuit dried when the sun came out - although not as fast as the Austrian Grand Prix a few weeks ago.
